If you’re looking to renew the surface of your skin in a single treatment session, our Pearl® resurfacing laser could be an excellent choice. This ablative laser treatment carefully removes the top layers of the epidermis, lightening superficial sun damage and removing dead skin buildup to reveal the fresh skin beneath. While a Pearl® resurfacing treatment requires 3-4 days of social downtime, it offers rejuvenative benefits that other light-based treatments take multiple sessions to achieve, making it ideal for patients who would like to maximize the impact of a single visit.

What does the Pearl® resurfacing laser treat?

A Pearl® resurfacing treatment uses the CUTERA® YSGG 2790 nm laser to precisely target pigmented cells while resurfacing the skin. A session can improve the appearance of pigmented sun damage, hyperpigmentation, uneven texture, and fine lines. Patients often see enhancements to the clarity, softness, and smoothness of their skin. This treatment is best suited to candidates with lighter skin types. For patients with the additional concerns of deeper lines and wrinkles, we can combine this treatment with a Pearl® fractional laser treatment for comprehensive results.

How long do Pearl® resurfacing laser results last?

Following your Pearl® resurfacing treatment, you can expect the treated area to look slightly sunburned for 5-7 days while the results are manifesting. After a week, you should be able to return to all social activities. Although you’ll be able to enjoy your newly revealed results for several months, your skin is continuously influenced by sun exposure and the natural aging process, and thus skin concerns can reappear over time. Pearl® resurfacing treatments can be performed again as needed.

Your Questions Answered

At Clinic 805, our Pearl® resurfacing laser treatments are performed by a physician-trained Registered Nurse, who will walk you through the process so you know exactly what to expect at each step. We prioritize your comfort and welcome you to bring up questions or concerns at any point.

We employ a topical numbing anesthetic cream and an analgesic for this treatment, as you may experience some discomfort while a portion of the skin’s surface cells are gently removed by thermal heat, which is applied to the skin at a controlled depth. A natural protective ‘dressing’ on the skin’s surface will form, minimizing downtime during the restorative process. You will need a trusted adult to drive you home following the procedure. It is normal for your skin to look somewhat red, puffy and flaky for 5-7 days of social downtime, after which you can return to all normal activities. Skincare and a physical SPF are provided post treatment to assist with skin sensitivity.

Pearl® resurfacing laser treatments are not for you if you have a darker skin type. If you are pregnant, have been on Accutane® within the past three months, have peripheral vascular disease, or have an active cold sore, you should not have this procedure. You should advise us of all oral and topical medications that you are currently using prior to treatment, as some medications are photosensitizing and laser treatment should not be performed while you are taking such medications. Patients also cannot be treated if they are taking blood thinning medications.

If you are tanned, or have recently been exposed to the sun in the area to be treated, your treatment will be rescheduled until the tan fades.

IPL photofacials can be an alternative option for reducing the appearance of sun damage, offering less downtime than the Pearl® laser but requiring a series of multiple treatments to achieve equivalent results. To further enhance your results, we may also recommend Laser Genesis, BOTOX®, dermal fillers and/or a comprehensive medical-grade skincare regimen. Zinc oxide SPF 30 sunblock protection is essential year-round to protect your skin from future damage.
