BOTOX® Cosmetic is a prescription medication that temporarily relaxes muscles when injected. Manufactured by Allergan, Inc., it contains a purified and safe form of botulinum toxin A. As we continually contract our facial muscles over time, these repeated movements can begin to cause creases or lines, known as dynamic wrinkles. Selectively relaxing these muscles can result in smoother looking skin and softening of fine lines and wrinkles. During your consultation, our skilled injector team will discuss your goals and provide you with guidance for an optimal treatment plan.

What does BOTOX® treat?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is approved by Health Canada to temporarily reduce or eliminate moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines in adults. BOTOX® does not address the skin laxity that is caused by the aging process. It also does not help with loss of facial structure/facial fullness or with contouring the lower portion of the face. Your injector may recommend a combination of BOTOX® and injectable fillers with hyaluronic acid to treat the lack of volume that occurs naturally with age.
How long do BOTOX® results last?
You can usually begin to see results within the first 3-4 days following treatment, and final results will be apparent by the two week mark. The results of BOTOX® treatment typically last from 3-4 months, but individual results vary depending on the dosing and your physical activity level. We can recommend a skin quality regimen including daily medical-grade skincare to complement the results of your injectable treatments. Treatments can be repeated at regular intervals to maintain your results.

Your Questions Answered
At Clinic 805, BOTOX® treatments are administered by qualified medical professionals with extensive injectable training who will walk you through each step of the process. On your treatment day, we use a fine needle to directly inject the specific facial muscle(s) that are causing furrows and lines. Receiving the injections requires no anesthetic, but together with your injector you may choose to numb the treatment area with ice packs during treatment. Each patient has a different comfort level, and we welcome you to raise any questions or concerns—we’re here to make your experience comfortable and positive.
This treatment requires no downtime and you’ll be able to resume most normal activities immediately, but you should plan to not lie flat, exercise or rub the area injected for four hours after your treatment. We will schedule a follow up appointment with you in two weeks’ time to assess your BOTOX® results.
Although we only offer treatments with excellent safety profiles, BOTOX® treatments are still medical procedures that carry a certain amount of risk, and it’s important to us that patients are fully educated on their treatment of interest so they can make an informed choice.
Temporary swelling, redness, bruising at the injection site(s), a transient headache, or occasional numbness of the forehead lasting 2-3 weeks are all possible temporary side effects from this injectable treatment. Adverse reactions to BOTOX® could result in a skin rash/allergic reaction or local muscle weakness. BOTOX® treatment of frown lines can cause minor temporary droop of one eyelid in approximately 2% of injections. This usually lasts 2 weeks and is treated with a prescription eye drop.
You are not a candidate for BOTOX® Cosmetic if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. If you have any type of neuromuscular disorder, BOTOX® may not be right for you. If you develop a rash or irritation in the area you are wishing to treat, we will need to postpone your appointment until your skin has cleared up.
Patients seeking significant improvement to the signs of aging may wish to consider surgical options such as a facelift or brow lift. Other medical aesthetics treatments can also address skin quality and wrinkling, such as Pearl® fractional laser or Morpheus8 treatments. Depending on your treatment goals, dermal fillers may be a suitable injectable alternative. During your consultation, our experienced providers will thoroughly assess your skin and recommend a treatment plan that meets your needs.
